Helpful Hints:

Vacuum Weekly

The most effective way to keep your upholstery furniture clean and looking its best all the time is to vacuum it weekly or as often as you dust your end tables. Make sure you vacuum all surfaces, especially cushions, arms and decking. This prevents the accumulation of soiling, and will add years to the life of your furniture.

Reverse Cushions

If your furniture has reversible cushions, be sure to reverse them every two weeks, as this will ensure equal use on all cushions. This will add to the life of the cushions.

Never Remove Cushion Covers

Never remove cushion covers for dry cleaning or machine washing, even though they have zippers. You will risk shrinkage or permanent damage.

Beware of Dyes

Never cover your furniture with dark colored blankets or sheets as the dyes may rub off onto the fabric when dry or bleed onto the fabric when wet.

Avoid UV Rays

Keep upholstered furniture away from direct sunlight, as the UV rays may cause the fabric color to fade more rapidly.

How to Keep your Furniture Looking Beautiful:

Professional Cleaning

Professional cleaning is necessary to remove the build up of atmospheric soil that exists in every home. In fact, leading furniture manufacturers recommend professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months for very important reasons. Professional cleaning will help improve the appearance of your furniture by extracting ground in soil, removing stains, and eliminating pet odors. Also, soil particles have sharp, jagged edges that may wear against fine fabrics like sand paper, causing premature fabric wear. Professional cleaning will also improve the health of your home environment by removing dust and atmospheric soil that becomes trapped in fabrics.

Upholstery Fabric Cleaning Codes:

Some manufacturers have adopted the voluntary uniform standard for furniture cleanability developed by the furnishing industry. If used, each fabric will be marked with a code, which indicates the appropriate cleaning method. The code may be printed on fabric samples, on a label under seat cushions and/or on hang tags. Use as a guide for spot removal, and for overall cleaning.

W - Use Water-Based Cleaner

Spot clean this fabric with the foam only of a water-based cleaning agent such as a mild detergent or commercial upholstery shampoo. Use sparingly. Avoid over wetting.

S - Use Solvent Cleaner

Spot clean this fabric with a mild water-free dry-cleaning solvent available in local stores. Use sparingly in a well-ventilated room with no sparks or flame in the room. The use of water-based cleaners may cause spotting or excessive shrinking. Solvent cleaning agents may not remove water stains.

SW - Use Water-Based or Solvent Cleaner

Spot clean this fabric with a dry-cleaning solvent, mild detergent foam or upholstery shampoo, depending on the stain.

X - Vacuum Only

Clean this fabric only by vacuuming or light brushing to prevent accumulation of dust and grime. Water-based foam or solvent-based cleaning agents of any kind may cause excessive shrinking, fading or spotting.
